Terms of Service

Last updated:

Summary: a free technical reference, not professional services

By using errcodex.com you accept these Terms of Service. In short: errcodex is a free reference of error messages, commands and configuration for developers. It requires no registration. You decide what to run on your systems, and you are responsible for it. If you do not agree with these terms, please do not use the site.

1. Acceptance of terms

Access to and use of the website errcodex.com (the "Service"), operated by errcodex Admin (the "Operator", "we"), is governed by these Terms of Service. By browsing or using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read, understood and accepted these Terms, along with ourPrivacy Policy and Cookie Policy.

2. Nature of the service

errcodex publishes reference pages about software tools: what error messages mean, how commands, flags and configuration keys work, what changed between versions, and which versions work together. Pages marked verified had their examples executed by our verification runner in the environment and on the date shown on the page; pages marked draft are based on official documentation only. Software changes quickly, and behaviour can differ on your system, version or configuration.

3. Eligibility and minimum age

Use of the Service is permitted from age 16 onward. If you are under 16, you may only use errcodex under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian who accepts these Terms on your behalf. Since the Service requires no registration, we do not verify age: compliance with this requirement is the responsibility of the user or, for minors, their parent or guardian.

4. Acceptable use

By using the Service, you agree not to:

  • Attempt to interfere with, overload or compromise the site or the infrastructure hosting it (for example denial-of-service attacks, aggressive automated scraping, unauthorized access attempts).
  • Reproduce the editorial content on other platforms without attribution, or present it as your own.
  • Use the Service for unlawful purposes or in violation of the laws that apply to you.

5. Running commands at your own risk

Commands, configuration and code on errcodex are examples. Read them before running them, test them on a system where mistakes are harmless, and keep backups. Commands that delete data, change permissions, disable security checks or modify production systems are marked where we know of the risk, but no page can know your environment. errcodex Admin is not your system administrator, security adviser or support provider, and nothing on the site is professional advice.

6. Intellectual property

The "errcodex" name and logo, the site's design and source code, and all original editorial content are owned by or licensed toerrcodex Admin and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may copy commands and code snippets from the site into your own work. Reproducing, distributing or modifying the pages' text without written authorization is prohibited, except for attributed, linked quotation for non-commercial purposes. Names of third-party tools and products belong to their owners.

7. Limitation of liability

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties about the accuracy or completeness of the content, service continuity, or freedom from errors. To the maximum extent permitted by law, errcodex Admin shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from the use or inability to use the Service, including data loss, downtime or security incidents resulting from commands or configuration taken from the site.

8. Changes to these terms

We may modify these Terms at any time. Material changes are indicated by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes are published constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

9. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with Spanish law. Any dispute arising from or relating to the use of the Service shall fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the Spanish courts, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection rights available under the law of your country of residence.
