About errcodex

Every error, decoded and verified. errcodex is a reference for developers: every page answers one precise question, such as what an error message means and how to fix it, and shows a tested example when one can be run.

What we do

errcodex is organised like a database, not a blog: error messages, commands, flags, configuration keys, version changes, compatibility tables, status and exit codes, comparisons and short definitions, grouped by tool. It currently has 204 pages, 138 of them verified.

  • Verified, not just written. Where it is safe, the commands on a page are executed by our verification runner and the real output is shown, with the date and environment.
  • Official sources only. Every page cites the documentation, release notes or specification it relies on.
  • Free and static. No account, no paywall; every page is plain HTML that works without JavaScript.

How pages are made: AI assistance and human review

Pages are drafted with the help of AI, then checked against official sources and, where possible, verified by running the examples. A human editor reviews new and changed pages before they are published. A page shows verified only when every example on it ran successfully; otherwise it is labelled draft and relies on the cited documentation. Oureditorial policy explains the process in detail.

Who is behind errcodex

errcodex is built and maintained independently, with no sponsorship from any software vendor. It is funded by advertising. The site is operated by errcodex Admin from Spain.
